The King Faisal Prize recognizes the outstanding works of individuals and institutions in five major categories: Service to Islam, Islamic Studies, Arabic Language and Literature, Medicine, and Science. Its aim is to benefit Muslims in their present and future, inspire them to participate in all aspects of civilization, as well as enrich human knowledge and develop mankind.
Islamic institutions, universities and previous winners of the King Faisal Prize can nominate a person for the award.; Nominations are not accepted from individuals or political parties.
The prize is not awarded posthumously.; Former Laureates of King Faisal Prize shall not be awarded the prize again.; More than one candidate may be nominated, irrespective of their affiliation with the nominating institution.
Nominated works must be published, likely to benefit mankind and enrich human knowledge.
Dissertations are not accepted.

A certificate written in Arabic Diwani calligraphy and signed by the Chairman of the Prize board, His Royal Highness Prince Khalid Al-Faisal Bin Abdulaziz, enclosed in a binder of the finest leather inscribed with the winner’s name and a summary of his/her work which qualified him/her for the prize 750,000 distributed equally between winners A 24KT gold medal
