The Niels Henrik Abel Memorial Fund was established on 1 January 2002, to award the Abel Prize for outstanding scientific work in the field of mathematics.
Self-nominations not considered.
Any living mathematician may be nominated, as a minimum requirement candidate must have authored at least one scientific and mathematical article in a peer reviewed research journal.
The nomination should be accompanied by a CV, a description of the work and impact of the nominee/nominees, together with names of distinguished specialists in the field of the nominee/nominees who can be contacted for an independent opinion.
The Abel committee assesses the following criteria: whether the mathematical work is compliant with the Abel prizes statutes, academic quality, and academic width.
